Lois Y. Barrett

Lois Y. Barrett is a congregational and organizational consultant with a focus on processes that help congregations and other church organizations move toward faithful participation in God’s mission in the world.

An ordained minister in Mennonite Church USA, she has been a pastor in a local congregation and has been a denominational executive, facilitating congregations in mission in North America. She has worked beyond Mennonite circles in the Gospel and Our Culture Network, an interdenominational organization with a vision for the missional church.

She holds a Master of Divinity degree from Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Indiana and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in historical theology from The Union Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio. Her thesis focused on connections between spirituality and ethics.

She is author or co-author of six books, including Missional Church (Eerdmans, 1998), The Way God Fights; War and Peace in the Old Testament (Herald Press, 1986), and most recently, Treasure in Clay Jars; Patterns in Missional Faithfulness (now available through the CI Store).

In addition to her work with Church Innovations, Dr. Barrett trains missional leaders for the church as director of Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary—Great Plains Extension, North Newton, Kansas, where she also serves as assistant professor of theology and Anabaptist studies.

She is also a musician, playing piano, organ, and Autoharp and composing music for her home congregation.
