Gordon Braatz

The Rev. Gordon A. Braatz, Ph.D., is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. A clinical psychologist, he has been actively engaged in psychological practice as well as parish ministry for more than thirty years. His parish involvements have been varied, focusing on organizational development, worship planning and oversight, and pastoral care. He has also been involved in ministerial preparation, assessment of candidates, reinstatement of ordained leaders, and evaluation of conflicted congregations for the Minneapolis Area Synod of the ELCA. As a psychologist, he spent many years as a supervisory psychologist for the Department of Veterans Affairs where his duties involved psychological assessment and intervention with a widely varied clientele, administrative oversight, and program evaluation. In addition to consulting work, he now carries out psychological assessments of individuals for the courts, and assessment/intervention with clergy in conflict.

Gordon holds a M.Div. degree from Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary (now Luther Seminary) and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Minnesota. He is board certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology. He serves as an accreditation reviewer of doctoral and post-doctoral programs in psychology for the American Psychological Association.
