For the last few months, the staff has focused on developing a Strategic Plan. From my perspective this is a major step in the life of Church Innovations. The process was led by Barbara Miller with all members of the staff engaged, and with some Board Members, in the shaping of the document. This plan clearly defines CI relationships with all the various partners and organizations with whom we work. This plan is a major achievement and important guide to our future planning.

Partnership for Missional Church

The summer events related to innovating missional church went well. These included:

  • The Brian McLaren event in Eagle, ID where Al Roxburgh and I shaped, guided, and facilitated the interaction between the presentations by Brian and 70+ leaders from around the world. Conversations were intense and engaging.
  • The International Think-Tank brought 20 scholars within the Gospel and our Culture Network. We deliberately brought three generations together: the generation who worked with Lesslie Newbigin and David Bosch; the generation who were their students (mine); the new generation of students who are shaping the present discussion around the engagement of the Gospel with Western Culture. This event launches a ten year commitment to carry on this scholarly work that will include as a central part of the work PMC congregations and partners around the world. Scholars came from around the world: UK, Germany, S. Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA.
  • The Summer Missional Leadership Institute with roughly 70+ judicatory leaders in attendance for the four day training event. Kris Stache and I taught over 20 of these leaders who are or will be working as judicatory leaders in PMC. We had a great time and both PMC and each of its pieces received a great reception from those leaders and the rest gathered for the Summer Institute.
