Moving Twin Cities Churches from Maintenance to Being Missional

For several years various members of our Church Innovations staff have tried a variety of methods to get a Partnership for Missional Church cluster started in the Twin Cities area. Nearly always those conversations were received politely, but without commitment. It was a time of seed planting with little to show for the effort.

But now there seems to be a new stirring of God’s Spirit in this matter. In recent months various members of our CI staff have had conversations with pastors, lay leaders and judicatory staff from 8 different Christian faith traditions, all of whom have expressed interest in learning more about missional church in general, and the Partnership for Missional Church (PMC) process in particular.

On Saturday May 14th Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Plymouth hosted a Church Innovations PMC informational meeting. People from five congregations representing 3 faith traditions were present. What was equally interesting was the number of churches that indicated a desire to be present, but were unable to attend on that particular day.

Since May 14th the conversations of interest in PMC have continued and CI has decided that an appropriate response would be to hold 2 more informational meetings…one on Wednesday, June 29th and the other on Wednesday, August 24th. You can learn more about the place and time of these free events by visiting the home page of our CI website.

We are very excited to be involved in these conversations. It is our prayer that this time the planted seeds will begin to grow into at least one (and perhaps more) Twin Cities PMC clusters in early 2012. Stay tuned!
