If you agree as we do that we are in a new missional era, and the challenges and opportunities for developing the emerging mission field of North America require each local church to assess their own place in this time, then this retreat is for you. We have designed a six-month journey for local church leadership to assess their own location for mission. More importantly, we have developed this journey as a combination of two face-to-face events, one at the beginning and one at the end of the six month period, and regular online interaction for local church leaders.

Imagine your session, council, elders and other local church leaders joining with a dozen other churches in exploring where they are now in their missional church journey. They are dwelling in the Word, exploring the ways God has brought them through time to this place. They are finding the ways their tradition has fostered mission in the past and shaped its relationship with its community outside the local church community.

Over a six month period these leaders will map their location in their missional church journey. They will make a sober assessment of their present location in the journey. They will name some of their challenges and opportunities to engage the missional era.

More importantly still, they will gain reflective skills for leading their congregation on a journey of spiritual discernment. They will gain basic skills for leading in this new era.

The Yellowstone retreat is designed to help those who will lead this process in congregations to get a jump start on their work. They will be invited to take this short retreat time as an opportunity to deepen their own sense of call to lead in this new era. They will explore the mapping techniques and tie them to a deeper understanding of the missional challenge with leaders Bob Armstrong and Pat Keifert.
