Church Innovations Visits Bethesda Lutheran Church in Murdock, Minnesota

October 16, 2006

Bethesda Lutheran Church in Murdock, Minnesota hosted the Lakeland Conference Assembly on October 8, 2006; they met to break down some of the demographics their conference was given at the Synod Assembly last spring by the ELCA Research Office and Dr. Ken Inskeep. Three photos of Bethesda, over 130 years old now, can be viewed at right.

At this gathering participants met in three geographical clusters, talked through who they were and who their neighbors were, and how congregations might connect to them in meaningful ways. We even considered methods of reaching out to people who will never become members of churches but who nonetheless deserve to hear the story of Jesus. CI's Barbara Miller and Pat Taylor Ellison helped the group to come to grips with a few important demographic facts out of the many they'd been given, and helped them process what they were learning.
